Chilean visual artist, with worldwide circulation, based in New York. Jaar did not pursue systematic art studies. Rather, he studied cinema at the Chilean North American Institute of Culture in Santiago and then pursued a career in architecture at the University of Chile.
His work revolves around geopolitical and social crisis, relations between rich and third world countries, immigration conflicts, violence, racism and refugees.
Art installations combine elements of photography, architecture and theater.
His work is intended to lead the viewer to think, to face fleeting, blinding, hidden scenes or to regain their ability to see. Capacity stunted by the bombardment of today's consumer society.
