ABOUT THIS CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

In this particular call for applications, Il Posto is offering up to two (2) grants to fund research projects that address the work of Chilean artist Juan Pablo Langlois, with a special focus on the questions and tensions he raises within the institutional space of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago, Chile. Due to this thematic focus, in this edition, the Il Posto Research Grant will be carried out for the first time in collaboration with the National Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago, which will participate as a program partner.

The research projects awarded the Il Posto Research Grant in this call for proposals must be carried out between August 24 and December 24, 2026, and result in an essay of between 7,000 and 9,000 words, which will be published on the Il Posto website. It is important to emphasize that these projects must address the work of Juan Pablo Langlois and his connections to the National Museum of Fine Arts. However, this does not mean that they cannot additionally address the work of other artists. In addition, applicants may focus their research on any topic or issue they consider relevant, such as:

• An installation or intervention by Langlois at the MNBA (examples: Cuerpos Blandos, 1969–2009; Monumentos, 1971; Diario de Vida Recortado, 1990)
• A solo or group exhibition by Langlois at the MNBA (example: La imaginación es la loca del hogar, 1973; Misses, 1997)
• An unrealized intervention project by Langlois at the MNBA (example: El Carnet Múltiple)
• Langlois’s reflections on the MNBA and the institutional art space in general
• Langlois’s institutional relationship with the MNBA and its directive (e.g., Nemesio Antúnez)
• The MNBA’s work in preserving and promoting the legacy of Juan Pablo Langlois

BENEFITS OF THE GRANT

To enable them to carry out their research and writing projects, recipients of the Il Posto Research Grant will receive:

• 200,000 Chilean pesos per month each for the 4-month duration of the grant.
• Access to the resources available in the Il Posto Collection, Library, and Archive, including the Juan Pablo Langlois Collection (currently being cataloged)
• Access to the resources available at the Angélica Pérez Germain Documentation Center of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago
• Support from the Il Posto team to carry out their research.
• Support in disseminating the results of their research (specifically through the publication of their texts on the Il Posto website and the organization of a discussion session following the end of the grant)

RESPONSIBILITIES OF FELLOW

Recipients of the Il Posto Research Grant in this call for applications must:

• Attend in person at the Il Posto Research Center (José Miguel de la Barra 480, apt. 201, Santiago, Chile) or at the Angélica Pérez Germain Documentation Center of the National Museum of Fine Arts for at least 4 hours per week during the 4-month duration of the grant
• Submit, two months after the start of the grant, a progress report of approximately 3,000 words detailing the progress of their research (this may also be a preview of their final texts, if they prefer)
• Submit, immediately after the end of the grant, a text of between 7,000 and 9,000 words presenting the results of their research
• Present and discuss the results of their research at a roundtable discussion to be held at the Il Posto Research Center following the end of the grant

FELLOW PROFILE

Anyone who is available to attend Il Posto weekly to work on their research may apply for the Il Posto Research Grant. Applicants may be:

• Individuals who have completed or are currently pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in the arts and humanities
• Researchers who have conducted research or demonstrate an interest in topics related to contemporary Chilean and Latin American art.
• Individuals with experience in or an interest in art writing

• What is the Il Posto Research Grant?
  The Il Posto Research Grant is a benefit awarded by Il Posto to early career researchers who wish to develop research based on the works of the Il Posto Collection and/or the material available at the Research and Documentation Centre of this institution (Il Posto Archive, Il Posto Library and Artists' Books Collection).
• What types of projects does the Il Posto Research Grant fund?
  The Il Posto Research Grant has taken various forms. In its first call for proposals, for example, its objective was to fund the development of a curatorial project that would draw on the documents available in the Il Posto Archive; however, since its second call for proposals, the Il Posto Research Grant has been specifically aimed at research and writing projects that address the work of the artists and thematic areas featured in Il Posto’s exhibitions. Thus, in this call for proposals, the Il Posto Research Grant seeks to fund research and writing projects that address the work of Chilean artist Juan Pablo Langlois, who will be the focus of Il Posto’s next exhibition (August 2026–January 2027).
• Does my research and writing project need to specifically address the works that will be displayed in the exhibition at Il Posto during the second half of 2026?
  No, projects submitted for this call for proposals do not need to specifically examine the works that will be featured in this exhibition (which, incidentally, will not be announced until the opening date). This means that your project can address any work, exhibition, intervention, and/or project by Juan Pablo Langlois that invites reflection on its relationship with the space of the National Museum of Fine Arts.
• Can I apply for the Il Posto Research Grant with a project that involves the study of artists and/or research topics other than those that will be showcased in the exhibition to be held at Il Posto during the second half of 2026?
  Yes, it’s fine if your research involves the study of artists and/or research topics other than those featured in this exhibition, as long as you meet the requirements outlined above—that is, to also (and above all) explore the work of Juan Pablo Langlois, paying special attention to the questions and tensions he raises within the institutional space of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago, Chile.
• Can I use the resources available at the Il Posto Research and Documentation Centre to develop my research and writing project?
  Yes, Il Posto Research Grant recipients will be able to use the resources available in the Archive, Library, and Artists' Book Collection at our Research and Documentation Centre to develop their research and writing projects.   The only requirement to apply for the Il Posto Grant is to be available to attend Il Posto Documentos (José Miguel de la Barra 480, apt. 201, Santiago, Chile) in person for at least four hours per week. However, the following are not eligible to apply for the Il Posto Research Grant: -People who are members of the Il Posto team or board of directors. -People who are related up to the third degree of consanguinity or second degree of affinity with any member of the Il Posto team or board of directors.
• Is it necessary to have a postgraduate degree to apply for the Il Posto Research Grant?
  No, a postgraduate degree is not required to apply for the Il Posto Research Grant, although it will be positively evaluated (for more information, see the project evaluation guide).
