Juan Luis Martínez

Viña del Mar, 1942

Juan Luis Martínez was a writer and visual artist born in Viña del Mar in 1942. Considered one of the most insightful poets of his generation due to both his literary creations and his erudition and ingenuity as a visual artist, he was part of a renewed generation of literature and art in the 1970s. This generation introduced strategies such as the dissolution of the author, the expansion of the writing space, and the incorporation of non-verbal, graphic, or objectual elements within it. With the publication of his first book, La Nueva Novela, he changed the paradigms of both poetry and publishing in Chile, mainly by proposing a new type of interaction between poetry and visuality through the book-object medium.
