Lima, 1972

Sandra Gamarra is a Peruvian visual artist born in Lima in 1972. Her work reflects on the mechanisms of the art world and its production, exhibition, dissemination and commercialization procedures, activating discussions about our ways of seeing and the colonial load that underlies the imagery of Western art. In 2002 she created the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Lima (LiMac), a "virtual" or "itinerant" museum that mixes appropriation and archival work. She has participated in several solo and group exhibitions -including the 11th Berlin Biennial, the 53rd Venice Biennial and the recent show "Buen Gobierno" (Sala Alcalá, 2021)- and is part of international collections such as the Reina Sofía Museum; Tate Modern; and MoMA.
