Regina José Galindo is an artist and poet born in Guatemala City in 1974, specializing in performance art. Her work is known for exploring and denouncing the ethical implications of social violence and injustices related to racial, economic, and gender discrimination. She received the Golden Lion for Best Young Artist at the 51st Venice Biennale and was awarded the Prince Claus Award from the Netherlands in 2011. She has also participated in the 4th, 53rd, and 54th Venice Biennales; Documenta 14 in Athens and Kassel; the Cuenca International Biennial; the Shanghai Biennale; and the 17th Sydney Biennale, among others.
