Paula Baeza Pailamilla: Far, far away
18:00 hours
On Tuesday, 3 October, at 7 p.m., Il Posto Documentos hosted a presentation by artist Paula Baeza Pailamilla about her participation in the exhibition ‘Lejos, muy lejos’ (Far, Far Away) at the Matucana 100 Cultural Centre.
Curated by Ignacio Smulewicz, ‘Far, Far Away’ brings together thirteen works by Chilean artists from a wide range of generations who share the experience of living in the diaspora of the globalised world. From Germany, Spain, Switzerland, the United States, Argentina, and the Netherlands, they turn their gaze to their country of origin to make an artistic review of their past, identity, and wounds, based on personal experiences, archival research, community dialogues, and even archaeological findings.
According to the curator, ‘for Paula Baeza Pailamilla (1988) —who participates in the exhibition with the video performance Anümn / Plantar / Sow (2020)— revisiting Chile’s history through art is an excellent opportunity to reflect and think critically about the country’s official narratives.’
