ABOUT THIS CALL

In this particular call for applications, Il Posto is offering two (2) grants* to fund the development of research and writing projects that address the work of artists from the Il Posto Collection presented in the exhibition to be held in the Il Posto gallery during the second half of 2024 and the themes of this exhibition. These projects must be developed between September 2, 2024, and January 2, 2025, and conclude with the submission of an essay of between 7,000 and 9,000 words, which will be published on the Il Posto website.

The artists from the Il Posto Collection who will be part of the above-mentioned exhibition are:

  5. Sandra Gamarra
  6. Marilyn Boror
  7. Amalia Pica
  8. Wynnie Mynerva

The themes of the exhibition will be:

  1. Latin American identities
  2. Appropriationism
  3. Circulation of visual culture
  4. Biopolitics and corporeality

*It is important to note that one of these grants will be open to the general public and the other will be reserved for members of the Il Posto Research Network, Diagonal. Only if none of the members of this network apply for the Il Posto Research Grant in this call for applications will the scholarship reserved for them be opened to the general public.

 

BENEFITS

To develop their research and writing projects, Il Posto Research Grant recipients will receive:

  • $200,000 Chilean pesos per month each for the duration of the four-month fellowship.
  • Access to the resources available in the Il Posto Collection, the Archive, the Library, and the Artists’ Book Collection at the Il Posto Documentation Centre.
  • Support from the Il Posto team to develop their research.
  • Support in disseminating the results of their research (specifically through the publication of their texts on the Il Posto website and the holding of a discussion after the end of the fellowship).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE FELLOWS

Those awarded the Il Posto Research Grant in this call must:

  • Attend in person at the Il Posto Research Centre (José Miguel de la Barra 480, dpto. 201, Santiago, Chile) at least 4 hours a week during the 4 months of the fellowship duration.
  • Submit, two months after the start of the fellowship, a progress report of approximately 3,000 words describing the progress of their research (this can also be a preview of their final texts, if preferred).
  • Submit, immediately after the end of the fellowship, a text of between 7,000 and 9,000 words in which they present the results of their research.
  • Present and exchange opinions on the results of their research in a discussion to be held at the Il Posto Research Centre after the end of the fellowship.

 

PROFILE OF THE FELLOWS

Anyone who is available to attend Il Posto Documentos weekly to conduct their research may apply for the Il Posto Research Grant. Applicants may be:

  • People who have completed or are pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees in the arts and humanities.
  • Researchers who have conducted research or show interest in topics related to contemporary Chilean and Latin American art.
  • People with experience or interest in writing and/or art criticism.

  • What is the Il Posto Research Grant?
    The Il Posto Research Grant is a benefit awarded by Il Posto to early career researchers who wish to develop research based on the works of the Il Posto Collection and/or the material available at the Research and Documentation Centre of this institution (Il Posto Archive, Il Posto Library and Artists' Books Collection).
  • What types of projects does the Il Posto Research Grant fund?
    The Il Posto Research Grant has had various modalities. In its first call, for instance, its objective was to fund the development of a curatorial project that worked with the documents available in the Il Posto Archive; however, since its second call, the Il Posto Research Grant has been specifically aimed at research and writing projects that address the work of the artists and themes presented in the Il Posto exhibitions. In the case of this call for proposals, corresponding to the Spring 2024 period, the projects submitted must be related to the artists and themes of the exhibition that will be presented in the Il Posto exhibition hall during the second half of 2024.
  • Who are the artists and what are the main themes of the exhibition that will be presented in the Il Posto exhibition hall during the second half of 2024?

  • Can I apply for the Il Posto Research Grant with a research and writing project that does not address the artists and/or themes of the exhibition to be presented in the Il Posto exhibition hall during the second half of 2024?
    No. One of the requirements for applying for the Il Posto Research Grant in this call for applications is to submit a research project that includes the study of the work of at least one of the artists from the Il Posto Collection who will be participating in the exhibition mentioned above, and to link it to at least one of the themes listed above.
  • Does my research and writing project need to specifically address the works that will be displayed in the exhibition at Il Posto during the second half of 2024?
    No, projects submitted to this call do not need to specifically explore the works presented in this exhibition (which, incidentally, will not be announced until the exhibition's opening). This means that your project can address any work or group of works by the artists that will be presented in this exhibition.
  • Can I apply for the Il Posto Research Grant with a project that involves the study of artists and/or research topics other than those that will be exhibited at Il Posto during the second half of 2024?
    Yes, it is acceptable if your research includes the study of artists and/or research topics other than those featured in this exhibition, provided that you comply with the above requirements, namely: you must also research at least one of the artists and thematic areas featured in the exhibition.
  • Can I use the resources available at the Il Posto Research and Documentation Centre to develop my research and writing project?
    Yes, Il Posto Research Grant recipients will be able to use the resources available in the Archive, Library, and Artists' Book Collection at our Research and Documentation Centre to develop their research and writing projects.   • How to apply for the Il Posto Research Grant?
    Those interested in applying for the Il Posto Research Grant should complete our application form and submit it in Word format to info@ilposto.cl by August 18, 2024.
  • What can I do if I don't understand any of the sections of the application form?
    We recommend that all applicants consult our project evaluation guide before completing their application form. If this doesn't help, please contact us at info@ilposto.cl. IMPORTANT: Questions sent to our email must relate strictly to the sections of the form, not to the content of the research projects.
  • What are the requirements to apply for the Il Posto Research Grant?
    The only requirement to apply for the Il Posto Grant is to be available to attend Il Posto Documentos (José Miguel de la Barra 480, apt. 201, Santiago, Chile) in person for at least four hours per week. However, the following are not eligible to apply for the Il Posto Research Grant: -People who are members of the Il Posto team or board of directors. -People who are related up to the third degree of consanguinity or second degree of affinity with any member of the Il Posto team or board of directors.
  • Is it necessary to have a postgraduate degree to apply for the Il Posto Research Grant?
    No, a postgraduate degree is not required to apply for the Il Posto Research Grant, although it will be positively evaluated (for more information, see the project evaluation guide).
