About Diagonal
Diagonal is an inter-university platform created by the II Posto Research Center in 2024 that seeks to promote encounters and the formation of links between students completing postgraduate programs in areas related to the arts and humanities. The proposal is simple: each year, we will select a group of master’s students interested in advancing their careers as researchers and invite them to participate in a series of monthly meetings where they can present and discuss their recent work, projects, and/or lines of research.
Rather than seeking to disseminate new discoveries related to the research topics presented, these meetings aim to create inclusive, pressure-free spaces for early-career researchers to share their concerns and interests. In this sense, the main objective of this initiative is to promote the socialization of research experience in our disciplinary field, encouraging the articulation of networks among researchers, the exchange of opinions, and the discovery of links between different topics and areas of specialization.
About the monthly meetings
The Diagonal meetings will be held at the II Posto Research and Documentation Center office, located at José Miguel de la Barra 480 (Bellas Artes Metro station), on the last Friday of each month between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. At each meeting, two students will have 30 minutes to present a piece of work, project, or line of research they are exploring, and then receive feedback from their peers. Depending on the stage of their work, presenters may submit anything from an outline of a research project or artistic production to a draft article or a mock-up of a work. Similarly, during the presentations and question-and-answer sessions, attendees will be free to open discussions on any topic they find relevant or interesting, including issues of methodology, writing, or the use of sources and materials, for example.
It is important to note that it is not a requirement to present research on the artists in the Il Posto Collection at the Diagonal meetings. However, those interested in joining this network must justify in their applications how their interests or research topics align with Il Posto’s institutional project, indicate whether they have any interest in its Artistic and Documentary Collection, or propose instances of collaboration with the institution that go beyond their participation in the meetings.
Oportunities and benefits
In addition to participating as speakers and commentators at these monthly meetings, members of the Diagonal research network will have the opportunity to:
- Publish their own texts on the Il Posto website
- Compete for an exclusive place on the Il Posto Research Grant – First Semester 2027 call for applications (to do so, you must have participated in at least 80% of the meetings and at least 50% of the network members must apply for the grant)
- Participate in a series of meetings with artists and theorists in conjunction with the Sagrada Mercancía Shared Studies Program
- Access the resources available in the II Posto Collection, Library, and Archive
Guests and collaborators call for applications 2026
During 2026, the invitation to join this network of researchers will be open to the general public for the first time. This means that anyone who is currently enrolled or will be enrolled in a master’s program related to the arts and humanities during the 2026 academic year will be eligible to apply.
Notwithstanding the above, Diagonal has the collaboration of some master’s programs that have supported the project in its previous versions. These programs are:
