Exote
18:30 hours
Next Tuesday, June 11, at 6:30 p.m., at our Research and Documentation Centre, philosopher and academic Willy Thayer will present the lecture “Exote,” as part of the discussion program surrounding Il Posto's current exhibition, “Un aire de distancia” (An Air of Distance).
Thayer’s lecture reviews the research carried out by the author that culminated in his book Imagen Exote, published in 2019. Through the study of the artistic work of Eugenio Dittborn, Nury González, and Raúl Ruiz, he explores the paradox of their traveling images, which, in his words, are “between… neither at the beginning, nor in the middle, nor at the end,” “beyond all immobility, finality, and rigidity.”
Willy Thayer is a philosopher and professor in the Department of Philosophy at the Metropolitan University of Educational Sciences (UMCE). He has written for collective books, magazines, and art catalogs. He has published La crisis no moderna de la universidad moderna (The Non-Modern Crisis of the Modern University) (Cuarto Propio, 1996; reissued by Ediciones Mimesis, 2019), translated into Portuguese by UFMG (Belo Horizonte, 2002); El fragmento repetido. Escritos en estados de excepción (The Repeated Fragment: Writings in States of Exception) (Metales Pesados, 2006); Tecnologías de la crítica. Entre Walter Benjamin y Gilles Deleuze (Metales Pesados, 2010), translated into English by Fordham University Press (New York, 2020), and El barniz del esqueleto (Palinodia, 2011). He is co-editor of La universidad (im)posible (Ediciones Macul, 2018).
