In 2018, Il Posto’s Exhibition Hall presented what would be the final solo exhibition by Chilean artist Juan Pablo Langlois Vicuña. Segundo Viaje Sentimental (“Second Sentimental Journey”) brought together works produced by the artist from the early 1980s through the years leading up to his death in 2019. Since then, various works by him from the Il Posto Collection have been featured in group exhibitions, while his practice has continued to be discussed and studied in various research and discussion contexts. However, it was not until 2025 that a comprehensive collection of archival material and previously unknown works by Langlois was added to our collection —comprising artist’s books, photographs, sketches, papers, and other materials covering nearly fifty years of production, revealing both his creative processes and the evolution of his thought.
From Object to Mystery. Juan Pablo Langlois Inside and Outside the Museum is the first exhibition to highlight and publicly display a part of this archive, which until now had been kept in private. For this occasion, Argentine curator Santiago Villanueva was invited to study a series of documents linked to the production, documentation, and presentation of three key interventions carried out by Langlois at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago between 1969 and 1990, all of which were influenced by the close friendship the artist shared with Nemesio Antúnez, who served as director of this institution from 1969 to 1973 and, later, from 1990 to 1993.
